Adding a Nutanix Cluster Monitor

Nutanix Cluster

A Nutanix Virtual Computing Platform is a scale-out hyper-converged storage and compute platform. Nutanix nodes collectively form a Nutanix cluster; each node contains CPU, memory, RAM, and storage, and they also run hypervisors. On each of these nodes runs a controller VM.

Gain in-depth insights on all key performance metrics of CPUs, memory, disks, content cache, and storage controllers. Set threshold limits for various metrics and receive instant alerts when they're breached. You can monitor your Nutanix hosts and virtual machines by simply enabling auto-discovery while adding Nutanix clusters for monitoring.

Prerequisites

Add a Nutanix Cluster monitor

  1. Log in to your Site24x7 account.
  2. Go to AdminAdd Monitor, and click Nutanix Monitoring under Hyper-converged Infrastructure.
  3. Enter the following specifics:
    • Display Name: Provide a display name to identify the Nutanix Cluster monitor.
    • Cluster Host Name/IP Address: Specify the host name or IP address of the server on which Nutanix is running.
    • Port: Specify the port to which the Nutanix Cluster is listening.
    • Username: Specify the Nutanix Prism username with appropriate privileges.
    • Password: Enter the Nutanix Prism credentials.
    • Monitoring Locations: Select the location profile from the drop-down list from where the Nutanix Cluster can be monitored. Once installed, the On-Premise Poller will be added as a location under the location profile. You can also configure a location profile.
    • Monitor Groups: Associate the Nutanix Cluster monitor with a monitor group. Choose an existing monitor group or create a new one.
    • Dependent on Monitor: Select a dependent monitor of your choice from the drop-down list. You can add up to 5 monitors as dependents. Site24x7 will suppress alerts for the configured Nutanix Cluster monitor if the dependent monitor is already down.
  4. Discover and Auto-add Resources:
    • Nutanix HostToggle to Yes if you wish to discover and automatically add Nutanix Hosts for monitoring.
    • Nutanix Virtual MachineToggle to Yes if you wish to discover and automatically add Nutanix VMs for monitoring.
    Note

You can add hosts and VMs only by enabling these options under Discover and Auto-add Resources. The discovered hosts will be listed under Server > Nutanix Monitoring > Nutanix Hosts, and VMs will be listed under Server > Nutanix Monitoring > Nutanix Virtual Machines.

  5. Specify the following details for Configuration Profiles:
    • Threshold and Availability: Select a threshold profile from the drop-down list, use the default threshold profile available, or create a new one, and get notified when the resources cross the configured threshold and availability.
    • Notification Profile: The Notification Profile helps to configure when and who gets notified in case of downtime. Choose a notification profile from the drop-down list, use the default profile available, or create a custom notification profile
    • User Alert Group: Select the user group that needs to be alerted during an outage, or add multiple users to a group.
    • Tags: Associate your monitor with a predefined Tag or multiple Tags to help organize and manage your monitors creatively.
    • IT Automation: Select an automation to be executed when there is a change in the state of a Nutanix Cluster. The defined action gets executed when there is a state change and selected user groups are alerted.
    • Third-Party Integration: Set up integrations, and associate your monitor with a pre-configured third-party service. This lets you push your monitor alarms to selected services and facilitate improved incident management.
  6. Click Save.
